On July 12, 2006, two of our soldiers, Ehud Goldwasser z"l and Eldad Regev z"l were taken captive to Lebanon after Hezbollah attacked their military patrol, along with the murder of the other soldiers that were with them. This tragic event started the Second Lebanon War.
Prior to his capture at Israel's border with Lebanon, Ehud "Udi" Goldwasser lived and grew up in Nahariya. Nahariya, which sustained hundreds of direct rocket hits, is devastated by the tragedy that has befallen Udi and his family.
Udi, Eldad and their families are well-known for their extensive involvement and care for their local communities. Yeshivat Hesder Nahar Deiah shares a special connection to Udi, Eldad and their families as a local organization with significant involvement within the community.

Ehud "Udi" Goldwasser z"l
"Udi was a kind and much loved person. He was considerate of other peoples opinions even if they opposed his own. He was a loving caring person, always ready to offer a helping hand in any situation. He was a man of principles and values, knowledgeable in many varied subjects. He loved movies, music and spending time with his friends." Exert from a biography.

Eldad Regev z"l
"One of the qualities that made Eldad so special was the kindness of his heart never hesitating to donate and offer aid to anyone in need. He always liked to stay informed and was constantly involved in what was happening around him. Eldad made many friends throughout high school and during his army service, all of whom can attest to his fine qualities." Exert from a biography. |

Udi and Eldad bodies were returned as part of a prisoner exchange between Israel and Hezbollah on July 16 2008, two long years after they were abducted.

"The writing of a Sefer Torah has given us a sensation of strengthening the unity of the Jewish Nation. As non-observant Jews we discovered that when it comes to the mitzvah of redeeming captive soldiers, the entire Jewish world shares the importance of bringing our soldiers home. The Torah to us represents a warm unifying force that brings together all Jews..."
Miki Goldwasser,
Mother of Ehud Goldwasser z"l |
|
"I am very moved by the very notion of the yeshiva to write a Sefer Torah in Eldadws memory. This is of great significance for us to be part of this important Mitzvah."
Zvi Regev,
Father of Eldad Regev Z"l |

"כל ישראל ערבים זה בזה"
The war was strenuous requiring the people of Israel to unearth strength from within to assist all those who endured the attacks. There was a true feeling of unison amongst all Jews.
During this difficult time our Yeshiva remained in Nahariya providing assistance both physically and spiritually together with the local municipality, home front command and volunteers.
Many of our students were drafted to join the combat on the front line. Those that remained distributed food and basic needs to bomb shelters on a regular basis along with providing activities and strengthening the people's spirit.
The deep partnership between our students, who come from all over Israel and the residents of Nahariya and the entire region was strengthened creating a deep and eternal bond between them. |

An Eternal Tribute with our Eternal Torah
In honor of what Nahariya went through and as a display of hope for our future, together with the families we have chosen to give the public an opportunity to join in the writing of a Torah Scroll in the memory of Ehud Goldwasser z"l and Eldad Regev z"l.
The last of the 613 mitzvot of the Torah is the commandment to write a Torah Scroll. A fault with one letter invalidates the entire scroll. According to Jewish Law, a person who completes even one letter of the Torah is regarded as if he wrote the entire Torah.

The Torah has been the heart and soul of our people and our unifying force as we are scattered throughout the world.
Jews throughout the world united in tragedy with these families and the residents of Israel. We invite you to exhibit the same unity in the memory of our soldiers Ehud Goldwasser z"l and Eldad Regev z"l. |
A Great Display of Jewish Unity
We invite you to join Jews worldwide by acquiring a part in this Sefer Torah for yourself, for every member of your family, and for your friends. Letters may also be dedicated for departed relatives or friends.
In memory of our soldiers and in honoring their families and the residents of Israel for all they have endured on behalf of the people of Israel
